Oakland Public Library – How to Apply

Title:   Branch Librarian

Location:   Oakland Public Library

Duties & Responsibilities: Performs general library duties as directed and under the supervision of the Director. Responsible for daily operation of the branch library, including, but not limited to: circulating library materials; cataloging and processing all library materials; keeping statistics; assisting patrons with reference and other transactions; providing photocopying and fax service for the public; monitoring public computer use and assisting when necessary; sorting and shelving materials; and other duties as prescribed by the library system director.

Education & Experience: High school diploma minimum; Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Preference will be given for library work experience and/ or experience with Atrium or other library automation systems. Proficiency with computers and the Internet is mandatory. Typing / keyboarding skills mandatory; general knowledge of books and current events required.

Hours / Salary: Maximum of 20 – 24 hours per week; starting salary $9.00 per hour during training. Salary will increase following training period.

Benefits: Personal Leave provided after probationary period completed; holidays as set by the State of Mississippi. State Employees’ Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Health Insurance and membership in Public Employees’ Retirement System provided.

Start Date: December 1, 2014 start date for training; Jan. 1, 2015 start date.
