Performs general library duties that include but are not limited to:
Circulation Duties: Responsible for the daily operation of the branch library, including but not limited to the following: register patrons; circulate library materials; empty book return; shelve returned materials; collect and record circulation statistics and monies collected; assess, collect and record fines; maintain accurate records; send out overdue notices; perform minor repairs on books and library materials; maintain all library materials in proper shelf order; prepare monthly statistical reports and annual circulation reports for the Director.
Administrative Duties & Requirements: Assist in planning and implementation of library programs and activities, including the Summer Library Program, National Library Week and other special events. Serve as a “goodwill ambassador” for the library and system. Develop good relationships with library patrons, library Administrative Board of Trustees, City and County elected officials, Friends groups, civic organizations and other staff members. Present a professional image in appearance, speech, and conduct at all times in the library.
Cataloging & Processing Materials: Responsible for independently cataloging and processing all library materials for patron use at Oakland Public Library. Training in Atriuum automation program, cataloging and material processing will be provided by system; must be able to type / keyboard efficiently. Branch Head will select and order library materials after an appropriate period of training.
Reference: Assist patrons in accessing information found in the library collection and through other sources, such as the Internet and online databases.
Computer Management: Supervise patron computer use and assist patrons when needed. Working knowledge of computers and the Internet is required.
Education & Experience: High school diploma minimum; Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Preference will be given for education, library work experience, or experience working with the public. Familiarity with Atriuum or other library automation programs will be given preference. Proficiency with computers and the Internet mandatory; general knowledge of libraries, books, and current events required.
Hours / Salary: Maximum of 20-24 hours per week @ $10.00 per hour; starting salary of $9.00 per hour during probationary / training period.

Start Date: December 1, 2014 training begins; Jan. 1, 2015 start date.
REPORTS TO DIRECTOR: The Branch Librarian does not have authority to place orders, pay bills, hire and fire, or perform other administrative tasks without approval from the system Director. Such tasks are under the purview of the Director.
